Information for professionals

No person’s story is the same, and to give someone the help they need can take a team of professionals all working together.

One referral to Kent Homeless Connect (KHC) gives access to a network of professionals.

Porchlight and Look Ahead each lead a network of other support providers. They work with Kent County Council to develop services and provide a holistic approach to supporting homeless individuals and those who are at risk of homelessness who have complex needs.

Experiencing rough sleeping can have a big impact on someone’s mental and physical health. The longer someone is on the street, the more likely they will develop additional mental and physical health needs, substance misuse issues and have contact with the criminal justice system (collectively known as complex needs).

The more complex needs someone has, the more help they will need to move on from homelessness and rebuild their lives. We know that prevention is key to helping people not reach the point of homelessness in the first place.

We bring together housing support, mental health services, drug and alcohol recovery, and help with tenancies, finances and employment to ensure that the right support, focused around the individual and their needs, is in place.

Online helper

Each person accepted to Kent Homeless Connect (KHC) receives tailored support. They have day to day contact with their own KHC coach, who will help them decide what they would most like support with and they can put them in touch with the right professionals local to them.

Advice line for professionals

Kent Homeless Connect gives referring professionals access to Kent’s only free helpline for homelessness and housing services, run by KHC partner Porchlight. Access to this helpline allows us to intervene fast if a house crisis occurs.

The line provides advice and information and is a gateway to a range of support around housing, mental health, employment, money and benefits, and feelings of loneliness and isolation. For information on which local services are available for a client you feel is at risk of becoming homeless, is rough sleeping, who has complex needs, or who requires urgent housing you can call 0800 567 7699. It’s free anytime, wherever you are in Kent.
